Welcome to Sharlene Mitchell Photography. Here is a little bit of information about me and how I became involved in Photography.

Having strong family ties in the horse racing industry, I approached Grant Peters who at that time was “Grant Peters Racing Photography”, to purchase a photograph of a horse owned by my parents some 18 years ago. At that time I had a small interest in photography and Grant offered me a role as his assistant taking photos of harness and thoroughbred race horses for the owners of each winning horse on the day. One thing led to another and the 6×7 Pentax Camera I once used to take photos with at the races now seems like a thing of the past. In saying that, the time I worked with Grant was invaluable and the initial experience and grounding provided me with an excellent understanding in all aspects of photography.

For a number of years I enjoyed working for Race Images Palmerston North, a professional racing photography company who provide photography coverage of Thoroughbred racing throughout the North Island. I worked as their Photographer covering the Northern Region and in 2005 we made the move from film to digital. This type of photography offers speed and flexibility without detracting from the quality of the image.

My skill and expertise in graphic design, coupled with the technology in digital imaging opens up exciting new alternatives to all aspects of horse racing photography. I can now offer this to the Harness Racing Industry at no extra cost.

My intention with this site is to make visible and available the range of images and products I provide. My images are of the highest quality and I constantly strive to produce the best that I can. I am committed to providing a fast and efficient service to my customers.
